Way Too Famous

8 PM, Thursday, July 4

Way Too Famous is the brainchild of drummer Derek Gjovig who thought, “Kansas City really needs an Eagles tribute band.” After a cattle call of vocal auditions, the core group of Derek, Tim Doherty (bass and vocals), David Page (keyboard, guitar and vocals) and Trent Oehlert (guitar and vocals) realized that “not even the Eagles want to listen to four hours of Eagles in a night!” The decision was made to expand the repertoire to a much wider catalog. Brad Athey (violin and vocals) and Doug Perkins (guitar and vocals) were recruited to fill out the lineup and WTF was born! When Doug decided to pursue other interests, Kansas City guitar icon Brian Ruskin joined the group lending his unique skills to the band.  Way Too Famous plays great classic rock songs from an extensive list of bands such as The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, David Bowie, The Beatles, Steely Dan, Foo Fighters, U2 and many more. Audiences love to dance to the extreme groove of this band and even the most discerning ears are impressed by the high level of musicianship from the tight vocal harmonies, intricate and technical instrumental work, to jaw-dropping solos. WTF’s members include some of KC’s best and most in demand players. Dubbed as a “KC Super Group”, Way Too Famous has had the pleasure of playing in KC’s finest music establishments including Knuckleheads Saloon, Westport Coffeehouse Theater, The Roxy among others. In addition to several private events every year, WTF is invited to play at civic events and concerts throughout the Kansas City metro area and surrounding region. WTF truly has something for everyone in the audience.
