Clinton is home to the largest downtown square in Missouri and the fourth largest in the U.S. Over 80% of downtown buildings have been revitalized and renovated since the implementation of the Main Street initiative (based on the model developed by the National Historic Trust) in 1989. Clinton Main Street works diligently to make the downtown business district a viable community economic force. It's efforts have been rewarded through occupancy of vacant buildings and the location of new retail and service businesses as well as numerous awards and recognition from the state's Department of Economic Development's Main Street Program.

Today, facade renovations, manicured street-scapes, awnings and signage symbolize the community's pride. Clinton's Historic Square area is the home of many celebrations and special events.
